A Sordid Tale with A Happy Ending

There’s no variance in the past
It led me, confusedly, to who I am today
Friendships came & went, committed to memory

I got bumps & bruises & excuses
Words lashed out at me, leaving dents in my psyche,
pounded out with others’ expertise

In the worst of my many lives,
I learned to hold my tongue
But once he caught-on to this tactic,
even that wasn’t good enough
and it led to more brutal attacks
and eventually to his arrest
while I artfully executed my escape plan
with enough hatred to bring down the enemy

I was left sorely in need of a friend
and Bob stepped up to take my hand
and turn my world right-side up,
ready to embrace the future in a new light
