Burying the Hatchet

Challenged to write
the story of a life
beyond mere existence
to satisfy the needs of another
in deep trouble
day after day in a bubble
of vulnerable stasis
afraid to exchange words
with their double-image
without an indemnity clause
on a bender of adventure
leading to its climax
in a rare moment of clarity
without the cloud of pretense
dashing one’s hopes for success
