We Need the Rain

In one ear & out the other
year after year, without retention
days come & then they’re gone
motion sickness – head on a spinning wheel
heating element set to ‘low’
watching the garden grow from seed to tree
branching out to shade below
from the scorching rays of the sun
with tomorrows soon to come, one-by-one
hatching eggs on which to feed
in this, our time of greatest need
